Usually it is the files fault. Majority of the other time, it is because of Graphic and Directx. Make sure that your drivers are up to date. Follow these steps to diagnose your drivers and check if theres any problem occuring:
Basically if you THINK you have the latest version of DirectX but you are not sure and dont want to download another version for no reason, this command prompts just check the version of Directx that you have.
This also diagnose your graphic/sound problem. If you have any graphic problem or driver that needs to be updated, this diagnose will tell you.

DxWnd (Not needed for v.75)
First you need to download the program. Link: http://www.maplestory-account.com/soft/DXwd.zip
Second you unzip and all that good stuff. (google winace if you dont know what to do with zip files).
now if you are using Windows XP skip to step 5
1. now that you have all your files and you have vista you need to run it as an admin.
2. right click the program and go to properties (it's probably the last option when you right click it)
3. now there should be an option that says run as... you want to pull the menu down and push run as Windows XP SP2.
4. after that theres an option that lets you run it as an administrator make sure you have that box ticked.
5. now you actually run the program. double click dxwnd (for vista users steps 1-4 should have been done to the dxwnd icon)
6. now right click anywhere in the box that pops up.
7. choose add
8. when you choose add you'll have another menu pop up called "target setup". don't panic thats normal.
9. there should be a button with three dots or it might says browse. click it.
10. when the menu pops up look for your AvalonMS icon. (it will normally be under c:\nexon\maplestory basically wherever you have you maplestory v75.)
11. choose it and push ok.
12. now you'll be back to the menu from step 8.
13. in that same menu you should choose the options "DirectX 8" under the section labeled "directx version to hook"
14. to be safe tick the box for "emulate 256 colors" (this step may or may not be necessary.)
15. push ok on the "target setup" menu.
16. double click "c:\nexon\maplestory\AvalonMS.exe"

Download Problem
If you download the file and all you get is Run cancel and thats it and if you press run it shows Iijj(whatever) isn't in the file or can't be located use this link for download
